Volte Art Projects is proud to present The Guernica Project by multidisciplinary artist and storyteller Raghava KK from February to September 2022.
The Guernica Project is a ground-breaking body of work by Indian artist and storyteller, Raghava KK. Born out of multiple encounters with Pablo Picasso’s original 1937 painting, Guernica, over the course of ten years, the project has since expanded into a wide range of work in various mediums.
At its heart The Guernica Project playfully retells history through cartoon characters and memes. Harnessing the historical and the über-contemporary, Raghava tells a captivating story that rejects binary classifications, such as the oppositional forces of conflict and harmony. The work’s narrative is fluidly assembled through the disparate references it melds together: coming together as a dance between Picasso, Raghava, Guernica, and the audience. This is done in stark rejection of a nihilistic postmodern that strips the image of its meaning.
The cornerstone of Volte Art Projects’ presentation of The Guernica Project is Raghava's 2021 work, entitled Guernica for the Siri-ocene. The monumental 3.5 x 8 meter long painting invites spectators to immerse themselves in the world that it creates.
A constantly growing series, The Guernica Project comprises paintings, digital prints, and a large selection of NFTs. Embracing the phygital, Volte presents a selection of printed NFTs, each inspired by characters in Raghava’s Guernica.
Unique screen-based iterations of The Guernica Project debuted at Volte Art Projects’ presentation at the inaugural digital section of Art Dubai 2022, these works, what the artist calls Power Fluff Toys are on show in the gallery as 3D phygital NFTs.
