Topographies of the ocean floor, lava flows and intimate views of the female body coalesce into a palimpsest of personal, geological and cartographic memory to explore the magical nature of ordinary matter and the ‘matter-of-factness’ of fantasy. Anchored in the everyday experience of lying down and drawing up a sheet, visceral subsurface structures constitute a less-than-simple terrain. Here the organic and inorganic, somatic and psychic, erotic and morbid are brought into tension with each other: meeting, separating, overlapping, continually altered by mutual entanglement. An encounter with the enmeshed realms of the corporeal and the immaterial inspired by magical realist writing that could dismantle mundane perceptions of desire, body, nature.
